A delicious way to support us

Support us subiaco

We’ve been selected to participate in Local Matters at Grill’d Subiaco this March!

Local Matters is the Grill’d community donation program that sees each Grill’d restaurant donate $500 back into the community every month. The donation is split between 3 local community groups $300 / $100 / $100. The group with the most tokens at the end of the month receives the largest donation.

Obviously we’d love to receive the $300 donation. Any money that we recieve off donations goes directly into supporting our research programs.

Examples of our research include:

  •  Intellectually disabled women, particularly those who don’t live in the community, are at increased risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures due to a combination of factors – we run a specialised clinic focused on protecting their bone health. We are currently running a research project to determine the effectiveness of this program and to determine if there are any further ways that we can help protect this vulnerable group.
  • People with coeliac disease are also at increased risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. In fact many people do not realize that they have coeliac disease until after they are diagnosed with osteoporosis. We are working to determine if any changes should be made to current procedures in order to better identify people with coeliac disease and osteoporosis.
  • On the back of a case study of Professor Stuckey’s of a patient with coeliac disease and osteoporosis having a dramatic, previously unknown side effect to an osteoporosis medication. We are examining the tolerability of osteoporosis medication in patients with osteoporosis and/or coeliac disease.
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complicated disorder that is commonly treated as a homogenous group. Our previous research has indicated that there appear to be multiple genes involved, we are currently working to determine if women who have a ‘lean’ form of PCOS are genetically different than women with the ‘non-lean’ type.
